Below are some recommendations and guidelines we have found valuable over the years.
Firstly, avoid damp areas as this can lead to mildew and can attract insects such as moths and silverfish. A good shaking and occasional airing of your carpet in the fresh air should help alleviate most insect and mildew problems and is strongly recommended.
Although excessive vacuuming with a powerful machine can be harmful, a light vacuuming once a week will remove any in-ground grit and dust that can damage the pile.
Avoid direct sunshine for prolonged periods of time and to safeguard the overall condition of your carpet you should change its position from time to time so that no particular part of the carpet is subjected to excessive use.
