Jan Kath

May 18, 2017 by CADRYS

Jan Kath is one of the most exciting designers to watch within the rug industry. With his modern designs, Jan Kath (born 1972) is creating a completely new perspective on carpets. Guided by a bold approach in his work, Kath, originally from Bochum, combines classical elements of oriental carpets with contemporary, minimalist design.

Jan Kath is one of the most important carpet designers on the international stage. His carpets can be found everywhere – in the homes of Arabian royalty, in the villa of rock star Anthony Kiedis in Hawaii, in private suites at the “four seasons” in Cairo, on the luxury yachts of multinational oil conglomerates, and in the showrooms of important Parisian fashion labels.

A carpet grows very slowly. Row by row, centimetre by centimetre, the pattern appears like a page emerging from an inkjet printer. When a hand-made rug by Jan Kath is created, it takes between 100 and 450 knots to complete every 6.45 square centimetres, or one square inch.

Jan Kath considers himself a couturier for floors. For large projects such as luxury hotels and exclusive shops or vip lounges in airports he also produces high-quality hand- tufted carpets made in factories.

Tammy Kanat

May 18, 2017 by CADRYS

Innovation is at the heart of Tammy Kanat’s creations. After 12 years as a jewelry designer, Tammy has diverted her artistic talents to textiles. The weaving journey began in 2011, when she enrolled into the highly reputed Australian Tapestry Workshop to learn and refine the complex skill of tapestry weaving.

Tammy’s 2014 exhibition, “The Spirit”, consisted of hand-woven wall art, vessels and sculptures which established her as an intuitive and original textile artist.

Tammy has gained international recognition through social media for her vibrant uplifting work and has since produced commissions for local and international clients.  She believes weaving is an ever evolving and timeless art for and an enchanting way to share the impact of her surroundings.

“For me weaving projects a mood. I follow my instinct to create designs that feel balanced. I am very visual, always taking note of my surroundings and believe this is reflected in my work.”

Lila Valadan

May 18, 2017 by CADRYS

The history of the house of LILA VALADAN begins in Persia, in the heart of Shiraz, known as the city of flowers, poetry, and love. Lila was born here in 1964. When she met Mohammad Naziri, a famous carpet collector, it marked the beginning of a grand adventure full of colours, forms, and myths.

It was 1985, when Lila gained her first experience in collecting carpets. Along with her husband, she travelled through Europe and sold her collection to merchants. Several years later, her passion for unique nomadic carpets continued and Lila opened her first showroom in Hamburg, Germany.

After being more than 20 years in the business, Lila started her own fine carpet production with her husband’s help. Refining the art of the traditional nomadic carpets – trans- forming them into novel and independent pieces.

In 2005, Lila opened her second showroom in Hamburg, which showcases the Persian art of carpet weaving in connection with artwork from around the world.

Today, Lila is a 5 times Carpet Design Award winner and developed from a retailer to wholesaler and operates globally by establishing a network that spans from New York to Sydney.
